Hi everyone,

Am wondering if anyone can identify the engine model I have in my 1968 JD450. The Dozer type is given as T5E3M from the data plate. The engine type is given as M5BTA and serial number is 107976T. It is a naturally aphixiated four cylinder diesel. There is no engine model given on the namepate data.

Does anyone have an idea of the model number? I want to order some parts for it as I need to do an engine overhaul (antifreeze in crankcase with the oil).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John

Thanks everyone, for your comments so far. For some strange reason I thought another number was needed - must have had a brain fart or something.
One other quick question. My oil pressure when cold at medium revs, is about 50 psi - drops to around 35 when warmed up. I realize the oil pump pressure is adjustable to a point, with shims. However, what advice would you give regarding an "in frame" or " out of frame" overhaul? This will be the first time I have worked on this engine so any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John Wood

The engine you have is a 57 horse power JD 202 (cubic inches)diesel. Acording to the numbers you have given T- tractor, 5-JD450, E-crawler loader, M-High lo reverse(transmission). For ordering parts give the serial number of the engine. Antifreeze in the oil is maybe headgasket, or the cylinder liners where they seal to the block, cracks in the block or head. IF it runs good try a block sealer additive.

The engine Data Tag should be on the right side of the block by the fuel pump.
I would say that you have a 4-219 engine.
