Keeping rocks out of tracks

I have a small Bobcat excavator that has rubber tracks. I have been using it in an area with a lot of gravel and larger stones. the tracks work very well at filtering the larger rocks and putting them into the slots on the track where the sprocket teeth go. This has tore up the tracks pretty badly to the point that I need to order new tracks.
How do you keep the rocks and gravel out of the slots in the rubber tracks?
I assume this is a problem on regular dozers as well!

Marvin,

Probably one of the only disadvantages to rubber tracks. Most small excavators do not have rock guards like a dozer. Try avoiding skid steer turns and counter-rotating. Also, when crowding material toward the machine, avoid ramping it up on the track frames and sprockets/idlers.

I leave a small berm of material between the machine and the material I'm bailing to load against. When it is unavoidable and you get material inside the tracks, just pick the machine up on that side and give the track a quick spin to clear it before traveling.

Running a track machine with material packed in the tracks is not good, especially with rubber tracks. You can break the steel cables in a rubber track with relative ease if you are not careful, rendering it useless and costing you some serious $$$.

Good luck,
Scott

I've not run in gravely conditions but never was a problem with stones in the tracks. You might try to turn when the middle of the track is on a hump. Are there any guards available for beside the rollers top help stop stones from getting in the track?
