Ive got a chance to get a 89 D3 for next to nothing...undercarrige looks 75%+ and everything looks str8 and in good shape cept engine has head off and walls are rusted bad...no one knows why the head was removed but Im assuming it will need to come clear down and get at least rings and rod bearings, maybe sleeves if they wont clean up...
what Im wondering is if I just put rod bearings in (assuming mains dont look TOO bad) will the imbalance in wear (clearence) cause the new bearings to wear or starve for oil? seeing as how the points of least resistance for the oilflow will then be the mains/cam bearings? also does anyone have any ballpark idea what a rebuilt exchange engine for this machine would cost?

a rebuilt is high! that is a cheap engine to rebuild, it does not have sleeves unless someone has rebored the block and installed sleeves. I just finished doing an in frame rebuild of a 931, same engine. I replaced the pistons, new rod and maine bngs and had the head repaired with gaskets it was under $4,000. I replaced te OE pistons @ ring) wit and after market 3 ring piston. I also replaced all four injectors. dI can send you the specs if you need them
