Breaking loose stuck track adjuster?

Hi all,

I have two stuck track adjusting rods on my Allis Chalmers HD4. They are 1-1/2" hex rods about 3" long with threads on one end. I got one to turn a little using a Rigid off-set hex wrench and a pipe cheater but the other one won"t budge. I think what I really need is a special wrench that grabs more of the hex so I don"t knock the corners off as I am doing now. Maybe a two piece hex that I can bolt together somehow?

Any suggestions on how to grab this hex better or other tricks to try?

Randy

I've had some that were so rusted and stuck, it was easier to make new adjuster out of hardened rod, 1 1/2" diam. by 6 threads per inch. The original wrench, I believe is a 2 3/16" which is kind of an odd-ball size. I'd first try loosening up the lock-nut strap (not the adjuster nut). Then heat the adjuster nut with a torch until it starts to get orange, and then pour cold water on it.
