Ford 555 Belt Replacement

The belt on my 555 TLB is stretched to the point I can't make it tight. I went in there last night to replace it and much to my chagrin, the belt goes around the hydraulic pump shaft. What is the easiest way to get this off? Can I just unbolt the hydraulic pump driveshaft where it hooks to the crankshaft pulley and move it enough to get the belt out? Or do I need to take the front grill off and loosen the hydraulic pump? Also if anyone knows the proper belt length, that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Larry

A Ford tractor dealer should have that belt. And can look up the part number.

I was able to shove my coupling ahead and turn it to get the belt in without looseing the pump on mine.

Larry,

I just replaced the belt on my 555 this weekend. The easy way to do it was to remove the grille, remove the 4 bolts holding the flange to the pulley, and then loosen the bolt holding the pump in place. Otherwise, I wasn't able to move the shsft far enough forward to slip the belt through the gap. The whole procedure wasn't that difficult, except for removing the thick accumulation of dirt packed oil to gain access. I pressure washed the area to peel off the layers which made it easy to see where the bolts were.

Good luck!

Thanks a bunch. I will get it taken off this evening. Do you know what length belt I need to get. If not, I can take the old belt off and get a slightly shorter one tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Larry

When we do one at work that is a pain, we always hang a second belt in there with zip ties. That way the next change is a snap.
