I have a ford 555A backhoe that is leaking the tranmission and differential oil out around the break rod seal where it goes into the axle housing. Question can I replace the seal where the rod goes into the housing with out disseambling the axle housing?

I just did this 2 wks ago on my Ford 755 TLB. Disconnect the brake linkage at the clevis. (This was the hardest part on mine. I had to hacksaw the rusted clevis pin out.) The actuator rod will slip back some but stay exposed in the axle housing. Pry out the old seal with a screwdriver or chisel, slip the new seal ($6 at Ford/NH dealer) over the actuator rod and tap it in place , replace/adjust the brake linkage and you're done. I got tired of losing most of the UTF I dumped in the rear end. Should have done it long ago. Not as big a job as I feared.
