Case 1150B Questions

I went and looked at an 1150B Serial#7304063 loader today and have a few questions.
How much does this thing weigh?
The man said it;s a 1974, is this right?
The Sprockets are SHOT, you can cut yourself on them, How much are new sprockets?
The pins and bushings need turned, and the rock gaurds are missing.
I made an offer and I know it's hard, but what's a good price to give?
It starts right up and seems like the steering and trans are fine.

I owned an 1150b for about 5 years and sold it last year. it ran fine, no welds, undercarriage was good and had fresh paint and after 2 seperate auctions ended up taking 10 grand for it. good machine, easy to run with lots of power but constant transmission problems. over the years i put a couple of charge pumps in it, lots of screwing around with the transmission valve, and even had the transmission rebuilt by a case dealer but it was just never right. engine was simple and straightforward, i did an inframe myself for a little over 1 grand in parts, sleves, pistons etc. got the parts aftermarket from somewhere in Pa (wegners?) and was happy with that. However, i just got tired of the transmission. one day fine, next day it wouldn't move, next day the case guy would put the "hydrasluth" tester on it and there would be no problems, and on and on and on. spent a lifetime changing filters, trans fluid, screnes and the like with limited success. finally, it ran perfect for about 3months straight, which is when i decided to sell it. i did see one that was pretty ratty but it ran, go for $2,800 at an auction this summer. i still have the case shop manual for the machine if you need me to check any specs on it. I seem to remember the weight being at 27,000 pounds.

with a shot under you should not pay over 5k to 7k. you will easily spend that much more getting the tracks in shape

Got a friend that was looking at one recently to buy "cheap". He was gonna front the money and have me fix up to resale and we'd split any profit. I did some price checking in a couple of books we've got showing recent auction prices to get an idea what he needed to pay for us to make anything after the needed repairs. Most of the ones I saw from the 70's were going anywhere from $8000 to $15000 depending on age and condition. There weren't really any detailed descriptions, just enough to get a general idea of the shape the machine was in. In the end I told him to pass on the machine because even with me providing "free" labor the cost of any parts we might need would take up more than any profit we could hope to turn. As far as the machine weight it's listed as being in the "20 ton class". The missing rock guards aren't a big deal unless your going to be working in a really rocky area. It's really common to see them missing on just about any make of machine simply because their just an added expense to keep up with if you don't really need them. If you need them, a set of bottom rollers for a D7 CAT of about the same vintage are running $311 apiece so that would proably be a close price if your needing rollers. I haven't priced a sprocket lately but I imagine one for a machine that size would run you somewhere around $1500 give or take. As for the pins and bushings you could call somewhere like Road machinery in Statesville, NC and they could give you an idea what that would run you. Depending on what kind of shape the rest of the rails are in you might be better off to simply go with new ones. If your really serious about the machine give Road Machinery a call and get the actual prices for everything. When my customer asked me about the rollers for their 7 the other day they asked for an estimated price for the rollers and I told them I'd have to get a hard price but I was guessing around $250 apiece because I had just replaced a few on a similar size machine not too long ago. Wound up being another $60 apiece which added another $720 to the price which isn't a big difference to some companies but it's alot of money to the "small operator" that's not really making a living with the machine. Good luck with the machine if you wind up getting it.
