my dozer wouldn't turn over so i jumped the back battery and it started right up. i used it for 8 hours and shut it off and again it wouldn't start. at this time, i measured 12.4 volts on the front battery and 11.8 volts on the back battery. i jumped it again and then while running the front battery read 12.4v and the back 12.1v. i am questioning the alternator, shouldn't i see 13+volts at the batteries while it is running?
are there any other tests i should do?
thanks

The alternator should put out 13.8 volts or more. Your batteries may be dead also. Try disconnecting the batteries and charging them overnight. A fully charged battery should read 12.6 or 12.7 volts and should maintain that for 24 hours with no load on them.
