I have a Left side steering clutch that will not release. Any quick fixes to cure this problem. This machine sits a lot but is usually stored indoors.
I am an accomplished mechanic and recently put on new spockets and rails and pretty much can repair most things. I just am not sure I want to tackle the steering clutch issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First thing I"d do is remove the top cover on both sides and compare the two.. Make sure the side that doesn"t work is actuating the same as the side that does work. This will eliminate a linkage problem as opposed to the common "lack of use- rusted together" problem. Look down in the cavity to make sure that the throw out bearing is trying to release the pressure plate. If it looks like its doing what its supposed to be doing , then I"d try loosening the brake band a bit (through that almost triangular shaped cover on the side of the housing) and then just run it and push a load with that lever pulled back in the disengaged position. If youre lucky , then it will eventually break free. A little rust goes a long way in keeping those steering clutches stuck to the plates in there..
