back-hoe pins?

I have an older back-hoe and the pins have plates welded to them and a bolt through the plate to keep the pin in place. One pin on the boom will not stay tight. The retainer hole was wallowed out when I got it so I heli-coiled it (1/2-20). Put a stud in with red loc-tite and socked it down with two nuts. Then put a grade washer and lock washer on and socked it down with a 12" wrench. It refuses to stay tight and must be retightened about every hour of work. I have it apart now and all cleaned out. The only thing I can imagine is wrong is the hole the stud passes through is egged out and must allow the pin to work the plate back and forth. Loc-tite, jb-weld, bush the bolt hole? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! joe in ny

Call it a jury-rig but on old iron like that a common remedy is just to weld plates on BOTH ends of the troublesome pin and never worry about tightening any bolts again, believe me you wont be the first, and fer sure wont be the last...

Look on the internet for expanders, no need to line bore, they say.

You may try and saftey wire the head of the bolt to the frame of the hoe arm. This is how we keep bolts tight on the 1000 ton blanking lines we have at work.

Then you think the pin may be loose and working in the bore so it'll never stay in one place? There's no meat left on the plate for a new hole for the retainer bolt. Interesting thought. Thanks! joe in ny

you probably need to line bore and bush the hole the pin goes thru. as far ast the hole in the plate welded on the pin drill a new hole.
