Hello,
I have a Td20 dozer
On the front idler adjustment I have two grease fittings I was told adjusted the front idler,When I try to tighten the track grease just leaks out the aft end,I take it the seals are bad..
How does one remove the idler adjuster ?
Do I need to remove the front idler ?

AND am I even trying to adjust the track the proper way ?
Thanks ...
A

Sounds like your doing everything right but as you stated the adjuster seals are probably bad. To remove the idler you'll first need to find the master pin or link and break the track. Once the track is out of the way remove the idler assembly where you can get the adjuster rod out of the housing. The biggest problem I typically see, beyond a worn or rotten seal, is the bore of the housing is pitted which allows some grease to escape past even a good seal. Often you can get rid of the pits well enough for everything to work by honing the bore. Once everything is clean and smooth install the new seal, put everything back together, and pump it up. I know I've described breaking a track in the past along with a few others. If you have any questions try a search or post again. I'll be happy to answer any question you may have about performing the repair.
