Hello all, I am new to this specific category of the forum. I am typically on the tractor section. Anyways, about 3 years ago, I purchased an international TD-340 dozer and this machine is great for its size. I will be taking the machine to a friends property to do some work for him. I have never really done any fluid changes, filters, etc. I want to know what all I should do to the machine so it is ready to do some work and what fluids to put in it. I know I should have done this a while back and I usually do maintain my machines better, but I just have not had time to do a thorough chage-out. I do have toe origonal manual but it does not seem to be very helpful. Plus, I this is the first diesel machine I own so I don"t know about what oil filters to get to what oil to run. The machine runs great, but the Owner had told me the stearing clutches burn out quite often. He learned not to steat to much and when you do stear, pull the handle hard to the one track actually stops, don"t "ride" the clutch to make slow changes. Does this make sence? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Mike

The other response gives you all the details, of course, but the two items I would highlight are the hydraulic filter under the cover on the right side of the case, opposite where the hydraulic pump is on the other side. You want to keep this in good shape or the hydraulics get sluggish and you can damage the pump. There are a couple of styles, so you want to take off the old one before getting the new one. Mine uses little cartridges inside a reusable metal cage, NAPA 1139 I think. The other item is adjusting the stearing clutches, which cause people alot of frustration. Keep them adjusted as per the manual. Tie back each handle, adjust the screw adjuster, and the check the free play to spec.

Mike a couple 5 gal buckets of international hi-tran hydraulic oil. this for the trans/rear differential. plug and dip stick next to shifters.
rear outer final drives 90-140 gear oil about 1 5gal bucket check your manual.
eng fuel & oil filters you can cross # at napa, plus get hyd main filter in right side of trans (this has been updated,i went to case ih and ask for the tractor filter parts 30.00?) housing and external hyd filter if equiped by hyd control valve.
bottom rollers need lube, fitting types on outside or grease zirts ?. top roller and front idler. 1 bucket of double 00 grease is what i use in shop, its pourable or you can put it in the grease gun and apply it in the field easy enough. a couple franklins should take care of parts and lube and regular grease
hope this helps good luck
i would agree on the turning statement a bit
