I went to the Deere dealer for a new throttle cable for my 450B. They had it in stock!
$130.00 for the cable and it does not come with the ends.
$30.00 for the ends, and he asks me if I want the pins and the cotter pins.
$160.00 later I walk out, I'll find a pin at the hardware storre.
My buddy said,"you have to pay the price when you have High end equipment." I have some wiring to do, I bet I make my own harness.

As said by others, the dealer did have it. Past summer, I was repairing a "40 B, had wrong muffler, asked at Deere dealer. Sure enough, they had 91 of "em. Price was only $105. One of the quickest decisions I"ve made in a while, so they don"t have 91 anymore. Fit perfect too. It was new manufacture, date code early 2006. Not bad for an item that was used on under 36,000 tractors built in 1939 and 40 only. I repair industrial machinery and you should see the $$$$ parts cost. A buna-n pump diaphragm about 14" diameter is $50. So be happy that Deere is still in business. Remember too, your cable probably kept some Americans working. GS

For a JD 4-202 diesel engine lube oil pump, dealer wanted $500. Same pump from a Reliance parts distributer, $168 - about 1/3 of JD price. Looking at them side by side there is very little difference.

I guess I will find out one way or another, when I run the engine.

New Holland tractor, bracket to hold on the counter-weights $850. No weights, bolts etc; just the bare bracket. Found it used 800 miles away for $200.

I'am not in the practice of defending Deere's pricing but, they did have a part for a 30+ year old machine in stock. Thats more than you can say for some other brands were to find the same part you would have to scrounge bone yards around the country for a useable used one. Thats why I bought a 450C to because at least you can get parts albeit at outrageous prices.

I too am thankful that the dealer had the cable, It's great to get the machine going with minimal down time.
On this point I agree thumbs up!

I just got done with steering clutches on a Caterpillar D-3 dozer..I removed and replaced the clutches and Cat rebuilt the clutches and brake bands..$ 3900.00 dollars later , plus my labor.. Transmission pump on the same machine was just under a thousand dollars and I bet it didn't weigh 3 lbs....I'd like to see what Cat gets for a throttle cable...
