I have a JD 450C dozer with a 2-way blade. I need to use it to cut a trench from my pond to a creek approx. 400ft away. This trench will prevent the water from the spilway from flooding my pastures during the wet season. I know that the blade can be mechanically positioned by undoing the pins on the sides of the blade to set the blade angle. Has anyone done this and what are to practical aspects that I need to be aware of. The owners manual is lacking with details. The trench is to be about 4ft deep and the soil is about a 50/50 mixture of red clay and sand.
Thanks,
Ron

In days of old before the 6 way blade ya sorta learned all the tricks of dozer operation . And when ya wanted to cut a trench ya sorta just dug a couple blade withs wide about as deep as ya needed to drop one track into the slot and that set the angel of the dozer and away ya went . or if ya needed something a bit wider like a blade width then ya went the distance a blade with wide and then beveled the sides to clean it up and make it look good . as for knocken out the wedges or loosen up bolts ya you can do that but as far as i am concernd to much trouble . The tilt blades and 6 way blade made it nicer but made operators think less now to day heck with all the new GPS hyd. all ya realy have to do is know how to move forward and back raise and lower the blade the GPS will do the thinking for ya .
