I bought a D2 Cat with low hours on a recent rebuild. Under heavy load with the blade in mud and rock she used to slip her tracks or threaten to stall the engine. Now her tracks just stop with no appearant increase in load on the engine. I assume the main clutch is slipping. Steering frictions appear to be fine. Can the clutch be adjusted or do I need to replace it?

Thanks, Paul

hey tom,
is the clutch incased in oil bath or should it be dry? I don't have a d2 but i was curious. maybe some of his slipping is because of oil on the clutch plate? maybe a bad seal, I don't know.

You can easily adjust it. It would be good for you to get the book.

Take the square cover off below the pony flywheel. Release the clutch and place the trans in neutral. Rotate the clutch until you can see a spring loaded pin. Place trans in 5th gear. Pop the pin out and roatate the adjusting collar, I believe this is clockwise as viewed from the back, until the clutch snaps over center with a moderate pull. Be sure the pin snaps into a hole in the collar to lock it in place.
