I have a Cat D3B and the steering clutches don"t return when you push them down. They stick and you have to manualy return them with your foot. It is a huge inconvienence and probably a bit dangerous. Any sugestions of where to start troubleshooting the issue?

Thanks

K Russell. I think the steering valves have worn out bearings on the end of them and someone not familliar with the machine has messed up things by adjusting the steering linkage rods. Maybe you should Email me at 104060.414@compuserve.com
THis could get a bit long winded here on the board but we will get it fixed.

I had the same problem with my D3B. I took all the linkage apart and found that the needle bearings on the pedal shaft and other shafts were all gunked up. I cleaned and greased them and also cleaned and oiled the various shaft ball ends. I also replaced the rollers at the clutch valve. It worked great after that. Apparently it doesn't take much friction in the linkages to make the pedals stay down.
