Hello. I am having problems with a 500 E international crawler steering clutch. I have replaced the fiber disc on left side and they shelled out in about two hours operation. I replaced the steering hub,(recomended by a parts dealer) and installed another set of fiber disc and it lasted about the same amount of time before they shelled out. Can anyone give me any idea of why this is happening. I have done everything according to the book. Thanks.

Get on over to Redpowermagazine.com and go to the forums, construction machines. There are a bunch of 500 owners on there that have rebuilt the machines. They will know.

What does shelled out mean?? Did you replace pressure plate? Were the disc you bought black in color?

CH, by shelled out I mean the teeth on the fiber disc are ground off. I did not replace pressure plate but I'm going to get it checked out. The fiber disc I bought are dark in color and I believe to be aftermarket. I replaced the steering hub because I was told that was why the teeth on the fiber disc were ground off. Anyway, no success on that.

Could be bad fibers but i wonder if it is adjusted correct. If the pressure plate was set to tight and the brake band has agressive material the brake could hold the drum and with to much tension on dics teeth give?? Just a thought anyways. I asked about the color because i sell thousands of dics for all makes and i did get some from my supplier that were made in Mexico they were black in color and they were junk, i could break them in my hands without and effort. One thing i will say is most times it is something not set up right.

CH, I think it could be in the pressure plate. I ran it with very little tension on the brakes because of being new fibers installed. I'm thinking the pressure plate or base plate could be warped and not applying equal pressure.
