Hi all,

I need to adjust the steering clutches on my Allis Chalmers HD-4 track loader. I have a manual but it does a poor job describing what must be done so I am hoping that some of you can do a little bit better. There seems to be a simple linkage between the clutch handles and clutch housing, just a couple of threaded rods with pins and clevises. Is there an external adjustment screw on the clutch housing or something to get the proper free-play? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Randy

If it is set up like my HD6B, the adjustment is the clevis and rod assy. Adjust the lever clevis until there is 3" of free travel from the lever resting position to the point that you feel the lever start to release the clutch (when you start to feel tension). I measure with a yard stick from the cowl to a spot just under the rubber hand grip on the lever (4" down). I learned this from a man that ran Allis the better part of his life, I took it as gospel and it has worked well for me. Hope this helps you. Eb
