Hello!
My grandfather (87 years old and still farming!) has had to replace the generator in his dozer - he his having trouble re-wiring the generator to the starter motor and his manual doesn't have any electrical specifics. The manual shows pictures, but you cannot tell which wires go where. Does anyone have any experience in this? Any help would be much appreciated!

Go to the link I posted below, A.C.M.O.C. forum, register on the forum, post your question, ask for Old Magnet, he might be able to help you, I'm surprised there is nothing shown in the servicemans reference book, but as you mention might not be there. O.M. and many others, seem to have a lot of service manuals, you may want to mention the serial number of the tractor, it was cut off in the header here. O.M. scans and posts a lot of helpful information from manuals, and I'll bet he's been a great help to many who need information that they might not have within their reach.

That is great to hear your granddad is still active in farming at his age, does he farm with the D-6 ?

Out where O.M. is in CA it was common for crawlers to be used for agriculture, seems a lot of them had lighting kits too, so he may be of help on the generator & wiring schematic. Seems there was a recent post on a related subject.

My old cats have no lighting systems on them ( yet LOL ) so I am not familiar with the schematic, although my books for these old D7's contain information on it, might have a look at them later.

Also:

ACME another great site for old caterpillar discussion:

Thank you so much! I have posted on the forum at ACMOC now. My grandfather does use the dozer in farming, but he is currently using it to help my uncle build a pond on his land (along with some other HUGE earth movers!). I love that he constently asks me to get on the internet and ask people questions about his machinery. He really appreciated your quick response :) Again, thank you so much!
