Hi,

I have an old Ford 14' 723 backhoe with a beat up old bucket that used to be 24" but the previous owner cut down to 13". There is a little old lady (really) that has a 36" bucket for an old JD 310 that belonged to he late husband. She won't be able to show it to me until Friday. My goal is to see if it can be converted to be usable by my old Ford.

Does anyone know about how much it weighs?
How big the pins are? Approximate worth?

My fear is that it is too large, but maybe I can swap it for one that right.

Thanks for your help and opinions!

jb

I might be interested in the John Deere bucket if you are not too far away and the price is right.

If you can get cheap....Trade it for a bucket you need..Or cut it down to fit your needs..Deere buckets are always good trading material..

Roy,

Is $150 cheap? That's the asking price. I don't know what kind of condition it is in, she said he didn't use it much... Won't know until Friday.

Thanks, jb

$150.00 is cheap as long as it's not all torn up..I'd estimate today that bucket is about $800 to $1000 depending on standard or heavy duty..I have made up bucket " ears " to match other makes with good success..Biggest problem is getting everything straight so pins go through and bucket digs straight..The most used size is usually a 24" for general digging..36" is a little overkill for most uses , but good for backfilling and grading..

Thanks Roy!

If it's decent then I'll nab it up. By chance do you have a feel for what a 24" bucket for a 723 hoe might be worth? I've been on the lookout for one, but have not seen any...

You need to get in touch with someone that has owned Fords for years..Usually sombody knows somebody that knows a guy who's brother had old Fords..If you know what I mean..It takes some legwork to follow down leads..Just like that Widow you found that had Deere buckets..Check with Ford New-Holland dealers within a 100 mile radius..There might be one hiding out there somewhere...A buddy of mine found an old retired farmer that had a '51 Dodge Power Wagon holding up a pair of corn cribs out behind his barn..My buddy was looking for his Dad's old Cockshutt tractor..He thought the trail got cold there..Not so, after talking to another farmer closeby , guess what he found..... I used the Dodge for parts and sold the remains to another " collector" for his project...I still need a bed for W-300-M Dodge..So I'm still keeping my eyes open....

Thanks again Roy!

It's pretty much what I thought - they aren't quite as easy to get as hen's teeth. Will keep on looking and networking.
