TD-9, WWII Service

Dad has a TD-9 that he bought off a guy 30 plus years ago. He bought it from a logger and the logger claimed he got it as military surplus from WWII. Apparently it was over seas at one point and it used to be painted green. Anyway, does the reported military service have any impact on the value? Can I verify military service via a serial number? It has a winch and a blade, starts on gas and runs on diesel. It has a Bucyrus Erie plate on it also. Thanks.

On the SERIAL NUMBER, their would be the surfix letters "T4" this for the US Army, "T4M" this is
for the US Marines, "T4N" this for the US Navy" . No, this would not have any additional value to the crawler.

A lot of these, similarly to the Caterpillar ones, may have been left over stock after the war. There was a huge demand for crawlers with dozer kits during that time period, with all the work needed to be done supporting the war effort and projects like the Alaskan Highway. I have 2 old CATs that wore green, it makes for some interesting additional history, but most if not all the survivors that were bought on government purchase orders, never made it back to be surplused, many were dumped in the sea, funny how they could not get enough crawlers, then they disposed of them. There are a lot of Cat D7 4T models left overseas, have seen some collectors across the pond who have found a few, one in it's OD green paint, ( he painted yellow ) these saw some action. There are some interesting WWII photos showing some of these working. Have not seen any value increase due to this, condition usually determines the value, some of the old D-4 2T's were bought for the navy, USN-7 = U.S. Navy 7th fleet, and had that number on a tag, have seen many of those still around. One nice thing, you can sometimes find military technical manuals for these machines, very complete information usually lumped into one book.

Bucyrus Erie had a contract to build the blades for early International crawlers. They built them for other machines as well. They called them bull graders. Dave
