A few weeks ago someone was digging a P&H crane out of the brush. Just curious how that project was going. Did you get the machine out? How is the project coming along. Just curious.

I WAS LOOKING AT A PH 150 LAST YEAR BUT THE WAK. ENGINE IN IT HAD GOTTEN WATER DOWN THE EHAUST AND I NEVER GOT IT TO TURN. WHAT OTHER ENGINES WOULD FIT IN REPLACE? THE OWNER SAID HE HAD A FORD ENGINE THAT HE THOUGHT HIS BOY HAD FOUND TO PUT IN IT YEARS AGO BUT NEVER DID. I THINK HE HAD A MANUAL WITH THE MACHINE TOO. IT MAY BE A WHILE BUT I WILL TRY TO REVISIT HIM. HE'S OVER 90 AND MAY HAVE CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT IT NOW.

I'm actually surprised this one turned as easily as it did. The exhaust pipe does have an elbow on it once through the roof, but it's so short I would think rain could easily blow in. This might be a case where all of the briars over it helped shelter it a bit. With the three-speed transmission on the back of the engine in the 150, it might be tougher finding another engine that would bolt up. It seems that the Waukesha 6BK was used in other equipment and trucks, so finding another engine might be easier than a repower? I have an operator's manual on order now, and hopefully that we fill me in on a lot that I don't know.

I'm slowly getting there! I e-mailed Terex, and was surprised that they still had records - it is a 1950 Model 150. I also finally found the engine tag - it is a 282 in^3 Waukesha 6BK. This past Sunday I pulled the plugs, oiled the cylinders and with a light tug got the engine to turn. I need to pull the carb and fuel pump for cleaning, replace a frost plug and bypass hose, and change the oil next. With luck and good weather, I should be able to try and start it in a couple of weekends. The plugs were nice and white, so it was burning clean when it last ran.

I'm on my second can of penetrating oil, soaking all of the slave cylinders, adjusters, bleeders, etc. I pulled the cover over the master cylinders, with lines running everywhere. Some of the cylinders are really hidden, but since I'll be taking them all out anyway it doesn't matter. A couple still have fluid in them.

I also finally found the dragline bucket. This machine had last been used to dig peat and create a pond, but over the years the area around the pond has become overgrown. The machine was pulled up to higher ground long ago, but the bucket was left by the pond. I couldn't find it on my first pass, but then the owner suggested looking near a pile of rotted dragline pad timbers. I finally spotted a piece of cable which led me to the bucket. It looks to be in decent shape, but is small - I'm guessing about 1/3 yard. I need to cut a few small saplings down first, but then I can pull the bucket out with a tractor.

I'm still hoping to find a manual for it. E-bay has turned up every model it seems but the 150. The e-mail message from Terex indicated that manuals might still be available, but that might break the budget!

Thanks for asking for the update. Now I have a better excuse to get away from house chores - the world wants to know if this thing will run!

I'd suggest silcone type brake fluid when/if you get everthing rebuilt this won't draw the moisture and rust up like reg. fluid does. Won't eat paint either that's why the old car guys like it.

I been wondering how it was comin along, glad to hear the engine wasnt bad stuck, that bucket is small cause the machine is small, it'll feel bigger when ya get it heeped up with wet material and head for the pile...lol remember to just kinda rub that master clutch when you get her runnin before ya knuckle it in case sumpins stuck...Oh and try to account for all your bucket parts before ya drag it outa the weeds, things like chains, spreader bar, pins, dump sheeve, crowsfoot, beckets etc...it should be all hooked together but if not the bottom of the bucket on the inside is usually where youll find em...good luck and as always think ahead.
