Hey out there, the dozer fired right up after sitting forever. Bled all the old fuel out and cranked it for bit to build up oil pressure and away she went. Now here are the questions. We tried to move it and the gear shift lever would move back and forth in neutral but would not move into any of the gears. there is a lever on the left side of the dash when moved up or down and i let the clutch out the dozer would stall, but if it was in the middle it would be alright. Also, there is a lever and you left heel and it does not really move at all?? What do these levers do and do they have anything to do with changing gears or are they for something different and the problem is with the shifter rails. Thanks and sorry for the long post
Chris P.S. it is a jd350 with t4f8d type and serial#0851241 on the plate below the seat. Does this make it a type D

And, by the way, the reveser handle in mid-position is the same a putting in the clutch with your foot - disengages both forward and reverse in the reverse.

Two things first. One is to get a manual. The other is to pull the transmission cover. Sounds like a shifter problem and you are engaging two gears at once. Could be very simple. I have a cover with bad forks, but the rails are good. While you are in there check out the PTO problem. If you have a mechanical winch on the back then that alone could cause the stalling if it froze up. If the PTO handle is all the way above the tranny and not sticking out into the open then it should be disengaged.

I don't have a serial # chart - but it sounds like you have a hydraulic reverser with the shifter on the left of the dashboard. The gear-shift for the gear-trans is between your legs, and the shifter by your heel is the PTO shifter. If that shifter for the reverser is on the left-dash, it's an old straight 350, not a C or D, and it has dry steering clutches.
