You should be okay then Mark.!!!Make sure the engine is not cranked over with the governor APART!!! You will have to take off the plate with the adjusting screw in it. This screw limits the rack setting(power)There should be a clamp screw in it from the side. Take screw right out, it goes through a groove and that will relocate it properly when you put it back together. Make sure it's turned the right way when you put the cover back on so the adjusting screw hits the torque spring. There is a piece of metal in the cover that runs in the groove of the plate to keep it in the right location. When you are in there replace the governor spring and the horse shoe spring and two dowels between the camshaft and the governor drive gear. This will make engine run smoother at idle. There is a small diamond shaped plate on the front of the injector pump held on by two bolts. This is where you check the rack setting. Take it off and when you have it together, put your finger in there and feel the rack travel as you move the throttle. Make sure you can force the rack back towards the governor end when you move the throttle over the detent to shut off position. This will ensure you can shut the engine down. Then it will be safe to start the engine.

Has someone messed with the adjustment? If so it may be as simple as setting the High Idle. If it is a mechanical problem need someone with the know how. the governor is the most percision part of that tractor. I can advise you on the proper adjustment. with out a tachometer you have to rely on luck. if you are able to obtain a tach remember that the tach drive turns half crankshaft speed.

Mark, over speed is a serious problem and hard to tell you what to do with out being there. Have to be careful or you could blow the engine up and hurt or kill yourself. Check to make sure the turbo hasn't failed and is dumping engine oil into the intake manifold. Take plug out of manifold and look for signs of oil. What kind of smoke is coming out of the stack? Come on back.

Bob The turbo never has a chance to get up to speed as soon as I crank the tractor the engine reves up quickly, the smoke out of the stack seemes to be normal in color not to black

Mark, if that is happening, something strange has gone wrong inside the governor, maybe a weight broken or something. If you feel confident working on it take it apart and see what is wrong. It might be worth hireing a mechanic that has experiance on them though. If you don't get it together right there could be a disaster. Don't run it like it is.
