My HD-5 dozer gear shifter will not move, it seems to be in gear but when I engage the clutch it does not move, even try to move, engine dies down until I release the clutch. I tried pulling it with the tractor and the tracks are locked, guess it is in gear or inbetween two gears.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Walt

further to my earlier reply, In order to free up the
gears, pull both steering levers back and tie them there
and made sure engine clutch is disengaged, that will
release the torque between the two sets of gears that are engaged and allow you to pry them into
neutral , as explained in previous comment. NOTE besides having a poppet ball and spring for each of the three shilter rails, There is also a locking device in the transmission cover that when you
start to move any one of the three rails it locks the other two in neutral I suggest that part or all of the lock up plungers have been left out on
last assembly . If you can move any two rails out of neutral at the same time that is the case. other than that a broken or disconnected fork'

Take the top cover off the trans, there are shifter bars in there and sometimes they break at the narrow spot. They can be rewelded by a good welder.
Make sure there is nothing dropped into case.

you are in two gears, which locks up your transmission
the end of the lever is outside of all 3 rails .
Pull out lever from shifter tower , and using a small bar align all three shifter rail in the center position {neutral} and reinstall lever in the rails. cause -- weak or broken poppet ball springs , while fast shifting and not pausing while going through neutral. and lever moving fron one rail to another.
e.i rev to 2nd or 5th , 2nd or 4th to 1st
The gear you are shifting out of, travels through
to the other gear on the same rail after the lever
has already moved to another rail and engages
another pair of gears and result locked up.
more likely to happen if tractor is not level
