With warm temperatures this weekend, I figured it would be a good time to see if the Waukesha 6BK would start. I cleaned out the carb and fuel pump and changed the oil. I was thankful that only a few spoonfuls of water came out before the oil. With the plugs out I spun it over with the starter and built up oil pressure right away. Unfortunately, I then realized that only two cylinders had much compression, with the others having basically none at all. I guess I have a few stuck and/or dirty valves. I tried to start it anyway thinking the valves might loosen up, but only heard a few puffs from it. Pulling the head shouldn't be too hard, so if the weather stays reasonable I'll give it another try soon. I'm anxious to hear this run before winter!

I also received the operator's manual that I ordered, and it has really helped me figure out all of the controls. The one thing I do not understand is how the boom hoist brake (which is normally on) knows to release when the boom hoist clutch is engaged?

You might not have to pull the head, try pulling the tappet covers and putting a small prybar between the springs and see if you can get the valves to move that way, worked for me once on an old plymouth flathead, dont get carried away and bust em though.
