Hi,

I have looked at both of my steering clutch housings and adjusted the two clutches as best as can be done.

I have the tank/seat assembly off the machine and have the two top covers off to get access (instead of going through the two small inspection covers). One clutch , when the lever is pulled shows some definite spring resistance - the other side there is little to no spring resistance or movement. The only thing I can think is that the clutch/disc pack has rusted badly and has become almost a solid mass. One other thing I found was that the brake pivot shaft (?) - the top forward shaft, had seized solid on the side with little or no spring movement. I have managed to free up the shaft and lubricated it so it is as free as the other side. I now need to replace everything on the machine to try it out.

Of course, the side with the questionable clutch pack had the master link pin 180 degrees from where I would have liked it (on top near the drive wheel). So, I have to move it anyway to try it out,so next time I park it for work, the master pin will be at the top where it needs to be.

Anyway, I am interested in an after market source for clutch plates and discs for the 450. I would prefer not to buy JD as most of their prices are very expensive. Do any of you have a source for the clutch plates/discs that are reasonable (preferably in Canada, but not necessary just more convenient).

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

J.
