I just bought a 1994 Case 580 Super K....seems to be a nice backhoe. Only problem I have with it is locking the backhoe in its travel position. Have to hit it hard to lock....are my pins and bushings worn enough that the locking is difficult?

Have an 89 580K and my locking sequence is at some where around 1000 RPM retract the back boom at full hydrulic and as it reaches full retraction and the locking plate is almost at the lock clam , push full foward and it comes right on back and locks in.

There is a knack in locking and lowering the backhoe of your 580,have the engine rpm at least 1000rpm,lift the boom up fast, just as it nears the stop push the lever the other way,the boom keeps going up and it will lock,to get the lock off push the lever from you as if you were lowering it,the boom will raise enough for you to press the pedal to release the latch,I have posted the page from the operators handbook at the link below.
Good luck with your machine the K is a good tool.
