I checked the HLR pressure on my JD 450 today and found L=150psi, H=150psi, and R=150psi. According to the manual, these are good pressures. So what could be keeping this dozer from moving in Reverse? Is there suppossed to be trans fluid on parts right inside that Bung Hole where I checked the HLR pressure? Everything was wet when I removed the plug.

Sorry I missed the other part of your question..The oil level is checked on the dipstick under the seat cushion..If you see oil movement in the "bung-hole" ,that's just oil slinging around from the clutch packs turning in oil....

Internal teeth stripped out of the sinthered clutch plates or the big snap ring that contains the clutch pack is blown out

Thanks. I"m assuming that means major tear down of the machine. What exactly are the "sinthered" clutch plates? What does the snap ring do that would if broken cause the machine not to go in reverse only? In one of your earlier post to me, you say the pressure should be at min. 165 psi. Should I achieve that or is 150psi good enough?

Sinthered plates are the friction plates between the steel plates in a clutch pack..They are a metallic composition..They have internal teeth that drive an externally splined hub..The snap ring that I mentioned is a large diameter internal snap ring that goes into grooves in the outer end of the clutch drum..If the snap ring fails or the area where the snap ring goes into breaks out a portion of the drum, the clutches will come out of the drum far enough so the piston won't contact the plates thus causing a slipping condition..The piston is secured with an external snap ring and spring washers so the piston won't go out so far that a pressure leak will occur..Earlier I mentioned a piece of the drum might break out causing a clutch pack failure..This is caused from an over tightening of a puller to remove the clutch pack assembly...A puller makes a dandy handle to remove the clutches and install them again...

Roy, could you explain the removal/reinstall of the clutch packs(the way you do it) The book says to use a press, what kind of puller are you referring to? I have had trouble getting mine apart.
