Threw track on HD-5G on serious side slope. At first, thought I was in deep trouble. This was my first time with a thrown metal track on crawler. Threw to inside.

Turned out, had it back on in less than 3 hours. Dug hole and got track back on rear sprocket. Filled hole and packed dirt. Used crawler bucket, lifted track off ground except at rear sprocket. With shovel dug below track to get clearance below all rollers. Used tractor (and chain)to pull track down hill to align under rollers. Used tractor to stretch track forward. Loosened adjuster all the way, dropped crawler rollers onto track chain, used two bars and walked chain back over roller, and tighten adjuster. Hard work, but accessability to use tractor and chain made for easy job.

Will not volunteer to repeat job for show.

can you imagine what it would be like to repair a thrown tank tread in battle?

Sure, I've done that. A lot easier than the dead steel track on the little Allis. This stuffs heavy.

Been doing military maintenace for the last 28 years in the active army. Rubber track is pretty easy to get back on. It's the mud or mess its off in that is the mess.
