PROBLEMS WITH FORD PROPRIETARY PARTS

I went to NAPA to buy some front wheel seals for my Ford 555 tractor. After going though several books, the NAPA person was not able to find a cross reference part number because the front wheel seal is a Ford proprietary part number and is stamped E4NN-1190-AA.

Apparently, the aftermarket suppliers have not caught up with reproducing part numbers like these as they have the old Ford 9N, 2N, & 8N’s proprietary part numbers.

I’ve tried to buy as few parts from Ford-New Holland as I can avoid, because they are so expensive!

Does anyone have a good source for Ford 555 loader/backhoes? I hate paying 3 to 5 times what an equivalent generic part would cost at Ford-New Holland.

THANKS, EVERYONE - I GOT THEM AT BEARINGS STORE in reply to AmeriKen, 12-06-2006 12:16:54
Thanks, everyone, I went to Motion Industries in Dayton and got the seals and bearings. The bearings were Timken with the number stamped on it. The Ford proprietary seal was measured and a Chicago Rawhide seal cross-reference was made.

When I owned my 555B I was kinda surprized how much stuff my local Farm dealer had in stock for it and how reasonable price it was ? I didn't price any wheel seals though. How much does New Holland want for them ? maybe check another dealer or two.

I don't know anything about your specific part number - but I've never been stumped yet getting a generic replacement seal, bearing, et. al. for my Ford backhoe - and most other stuff. In regard to seals - just measure it - width, inside diam., outside diam. and lip-type and then just look it up in a seal catalog by size. Bearings - just do the same or go by bearing #. I even had problem finding a oddball tie-rod end for my Ford - it only came in their heavy-duty front end package and there was no listing for aftermarket. So, I measured the length, pin and taper diam. thread size - pitch - and direction since this had left-hand thread. Found a catalog that lists them by sizes - and found an aftermarket right away listed for an International ag. tractor. Ended up costing me $17 instead of the $72 Ford-New Holland wanted.
