Hi folks, I recently got hold of a Buffalo Springfield roller #19224. It has a cat D4400 #3R2193SP engine in it. It's been sitting a long time and many things were stuck. So far I've gotten the clutch free and the pony. Next one to go after is the main engine. So what is the easiest way to get some penetrating oil into the cyls. I was thinking maybe removing the manifolds and throwing the compression release. Then I would also get to see what caused the stuck water, mice, ect. Any ideas or info on the machine would be helpful. Thanks Chuck

My friend,Bernie, and I have unstuck many blocks in order to get parts for tractor pullers. We have done side by side comparisons of just about everything and have been most successful when using isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol). lrp

Pull the injectors and fill the cylinders with turpentine, best thing I have found for diesel engines. Now if it was a gas engine I would say tranny fluid. I had an Allis 190XT that was locked up and I put turpentine in the cylinders and with in a week it was turning over

I put marvel mystery oil in the injector holes in a old grader I bought then went back a week later and pulled it with a big farm tractor . Remember the water that cools the motor runs around the injectors ... So if you pull the injectors make sure you drain the water are it will get in the cylinders .. I saw a lad bend a piston rod not knowing there was water in the cylinder..

Kroil from Kano Industries works good.
Usually water gets down the exaust and a valve will be open into one cylinder, pulling injectors is best but you could dump the kroil, mystry oil or atf down the exaust and it would find its way to the affected cylinder. You could then pull the manifold to determine which cylinder is affected. It is not that much trouble on a D 4400.
