Hi,

Is there any general preferance to the type of mounting for the brake band material and if so why?

I recently worked on one of the steering clutches on my machine. I found that one the bonded brake pads had come off of the metal brake band, thereby causing looseness and loss of function. I am considering replacing all the pads with thicker material (say 1/4"thick) that is rivetted with brass rivets (to save the outside of the drum). In my case where there would not be much more than a couple of hundred hours of use per year, I think this installation would work.

Have any of you tried with rivetted shoes, and if so how did they perform/last.

Thanks for any comments - all appreciated.

J.

Bigger is not always better..I can see your logic wanting to slightly overkill the brake linings...But there's a reason someone else hasn't done that before...There's not the room for thicker linings..Riviting linings on is good, not so sure of brass rivits..I would prefer steel rivits myself..I would think the brass rivits would loosen up..My thoughts , do watcha want....

Hi Roy,

Thanks for your comments - make sense. Sometimes we don't always see what others do, hence the need for questions and ideas.
