Have a D7 17A Cat with a pony motor that the magneto is bad. Can you put a magneto distributor on the pony motor and make it work? If not does anyone have a Wico 3S2987 good magneto out there? Thank you.

The mag is in pretty bad shape. I was wondering if anyone tried to put a Wico distributor mag on from a JD two cyclinder tractor. I have one that I think will mount on the pony motor but I don"t know if you could get it to fire at the right time. Didn"t want to go to direct start because of cost nad I only put around 20 to 30 hours a year on it as it is used on a farm. Thanks guys.

What do you have to have for the mag?

How much do you have to have for the mag and shipping? Thank you.

Not aware of any distributor available as replacement but have seen folks add coil and just use the points in the magneto. Is the mag repairable? Doesn't have to be just Wico. American Bosch was also used.
