I have a 71or72 case 580b with a 188d I think I cant find a tag were would it be? The engine is in need of a rebuild on the top end. I have looked for a kit for just the top end but have not found one. Is there a kit that just includes sleeves, pistons and rings. The reason for just the top is because the bottom was rebuilt shortly after my dad bought it 15 years ago and has not been used more than 1500 hours sense. I also don’t have a lot of money to spend on parts so I don’t want to replace thing that don’t need fixing. I would like to get the engine back up on some power and some less smoke so I can use it more than in the past. thanks for the help

The serial # for the tractor should be on a plate on the RH side of the steering column.

The engine serial # is on a plate on the RH side of the engine just aft of the oil filter.

EQUIPMENT PARTS SOURCE INC have complete kits for the late production 188 for $635.00

I can't seem to post a link to their site here, it won't let me.

To rebuild the engine as you say the only thing you wont use from a COMPLETE kit is the bearings, but it makes absolutely no sense to have the bearings there and not put them in. I'm sure you can order just the parts you want to replace but would probably be cheaper to get the entire kit.
