Galion Master Cylinder

Hello All, I have a T500A Galion Grader. The master cylinder needed a rebuild so I pulled it and tore down to inspect. I ordered a rebuild kit from the dealer with the serial number. Here is the problem. The kit does not fit the cylinder. I have an original Galion parts book and the kit does match it. The book shows a picture with of a reaction piston with a check valve and spring with a screen, all of these parts are in the kit. Mine does not have that kind of reaction piston, it is a simple solid reaction piston with rubber seals. The master cylinder is a Wagner, that was built for Galion.
Does any one have any experience with Galion graders. I have called Wagner with some numbers I found on the main piston, and was told it was discontinued, they could not give me any more information.

Dave,

The 503 MC I replaced was NAPA #36471

You can view it on the NAPA website.

Thanks for the number. I checked the web site, and the master cylinder is not the same as mine. It appears to mount from the side whearas mine mounts from the end with three bolts.
Thanks any way for the information.

I have been down that route. The casting number is FD-2704, which is used for several applications from heavy equipment to Ford trucks. The pistons inside is what sets each one apart. The master cylinder I have was made for a Galion grader, just not a T500A. It appears that some one changed the cylinders in the past. My cylinder was made for another series grader. I was hoping some one had experience with Galion graders, and could steer me in the right direction. The Galion cylinders have a reaction piston inside the main piston. I have never seen this before, and do not understand the reason for it. I would like to know the reason for the reaction piston, as I am about to machine a spacer plate to install a cylinder for a Ford truck. It too has a casting number of 2704. The bore is the same. The difference is no reaction piston, and the body is .250 longer at the mount end. This grader has the optional 4 wheel brakes. The cylinder is different from 2 wheel brakes. Sorry for the long post.

Dave,

I replaced a MC on a 503 a few weeks ago with one from NAPA. I'll get the number (it's out in the shop) and will get it to you. I'm not sure if the T500 has the same MC as the 503, but it may worth looking into.

Scott
