also if all elae fails put the plug in the bottom of the case and fill with Diesel Fuel for a week or two and thy free themselves, remember to flush with a mineral spirit of sorts or the dust collects and you have real problems, also if it doesn't work at least everything is clean when you go inside to free them by hand, I fill my cases like this when I store over the winter season, havent stuck yet, good luck.

Use a high gear at slow speed and run it into a big tree the shock will break it loose

Hey Bob thats a good tip wonder if you have ever tried it with steering clutches that are stuck if you hold levers back so they will be disengaged wonder if this trick might work?

Don't bet on it. The steering clutches are multi disk and are on a large splined drum. Unfortunately the disks become rusted to the drum and the metal plates. What is left is a solid chunk of metal and fibre. At times they are so froze up that the only way to dissassmble them it to break the fibre plates away and sand blast everything.

Now if you're a sucker for punishment you can as I have done, make the plates from 316 stainless steel. The mentioned trick may work in this case as the only place the disks will be stuck is to the splined drive drum.

TonyK.

JD440 STUCK UP; Don't know if this will get you out of it cheap but here goes. Jack up and block up the crawler front and back so the track can turn freely. Place a Salamander kerosene heater about 8 feet away and fire it up for 8 to 10 hours. You want the final drive/clutch oil real hot but not flaming. Start the crawler and put it in 3 gear and let it motivate for an hour. Open up the fill port for the clutch/final lube area. Pour in six cans of PB Rust spray product- this is the tough part since it is an aerosol product. Maybe you can contact the vendor and get the product as a liquid. Keep working the clutch arms and shifting up and down the range and back and forth directions. Using the other tricks mentioned in the other strings here you just might luck out. Be sure to thoroughly flush out the rust, BP Rust and moisture remnants from the case. Refill with the specified lube products. Good luck in your efforts to beat the big bucks.

It will work with steering clutches some time. When mine stuck I cleared brush with the handle tied back in the clutch release position, short of the brake. It came loose after about two hours. Pain in the neck to have to back up to turn the other way before it unstuck, but easier than pulling the final.
