I have one rail broken at weld and other cracked halfway down rail base weld. I have removed right side and need to get broken bolt out of left before rail lifts up off of hardbar. On both sides the Bolt on front side of the hardbar that passes thru from bottom of hardbar to secure frame rail is broken off. Does anybody have any advice on what the options are on this situation. I was thinking maybe drill out and use larger bolt with nut to secure when rails go back in? I am asking with reguard to fixing in a manner that the bolt will not break again in those two positions? Any advice would be appreciated?

Thanks, Remote

I used grade five bolts when rebuilding my frame rails and for the mounting bolts for the bottom rollers. That way, if later on I have to remove a bolt, they will be a little bit easier to drill out. Just my two cents. good luck bud!!

You have to drill a hole in the bolt and use the biggest easy-out you can. I had a bunch of broken bolts on a JD 355 loader I had. I got them out but had to use a lot of heat around where the bolt went in. Once I got them loose I turned them back and forth and finally got them out. The threads were still good inside but I ran a tap in them to clean them up. You could try to find out what grade of bolts they were. A grade 8 or higher will break before it bends. A grade 5 will bend. I had a very strong 12 point bolt holding my Cab and loader that snapped off just under the head. They said it was probably a defective bolt. Good thing I noticed it. Dave

rather than oversize I perfer to use a threaded insert. I usually buy mine at my cat dealer but most bolt dealers have them. be sure you get the insert and not a helicoil. on the broke weld, remove all the old weld and reweld
