Small drips of very black oil dripping out from exhaust manifold at muffler connection. Engine was just reassembled after complete machine shop service. New bearings, pistons, rings, and head was completely rebuilt. All new gaskets, valve guides and seals. Oil begins to drip out after warm up at approx 3/4 trottle. I checked valve lash and retorqued head. Exhaust is clean when engine is running, (no smoke out the stack).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ok so ya had the engine rebuilt , but did you have the injectors checked ???? sounds like injector slobber her . what is this engine in a TD 7-8 ??? like said below take it out and run it like you stole it also run some Lucas in the fuel this may help clean the injectors up a bit and don't let it ideal for long periods as the greman engine does not take idealing well or light loads well they are prone to this problem .

Have you worked it hard yet? You have to work the snot out of german diesels after you rebuild them to get the new rings to seal.

Are you sure it's oil? Int diesels will slobber like tar, unburnt fuel, around exhaust side for any of three reasons: 1. If not run hard enough like when running an elevator at half rev; 2. when they are about ready for an overhaul; and 3. when fuel cable to the pump is set wrong & (I think) starving the engine of enough fuel. I had a good running 239 all of a sudden begin to slobber black around manifold & found that the fuel shut-off cable clamp had slipped. Adjusted & Tightened the cable and no more slobber.

Wolfman, Good tip !! I simply assumed it was oil. I"ll take a closer look to see if it could be fuel. The fuel pump was completly serviced and checked out at a local injection shop so I know it is in good order. I will run thru the throttle rod adjustment sequence to make sure it is set correctly. The engine does throttle up to full power sitting stationary but haven"t put it under a load yet as loader is not yet attached. Thanks
