Hello:
Just wondering what kind of this past construction season you contractors have had and what you think the up coming construction season looks like.

I keep telling the boss the machines need serviced, but he says yeah we'll do it on a rain day. Yeah right, he's always got a job to do somewhere where we can work when it's wet like hauling rock or a demo job. If the hours are getting too high I will just grab another machine, we have plenty of equipment but few operators. I am in charge of servicing and maintainence on the equipment but thats hard to do when I'm in the seat all the time. It takes me about a month in the winter just to get the equipment serviced and any light repairs done. If by chance we do get a day in the shop mostly it's working on trucks to keep them road worthy. We run mostly late model Cat equipment and have had real good luck with warranty work and stuff like that. We also use Cat's oil sample program and so far have had no problems.

I'm from Michigan. 2006 was a slow year. Work finally came in good about the middle of Sept. and so did the rain, We lost all of Oct.to the rain also. I don't think that this year is going to be any better due to the economy of this poor state. Like they say, Last person to leave the state, Please turn the lights out!

We're still working here. Was real busy this summer and fall, had to turn away a lot of work. Expecting the first winter storm of the season to hit tomorrow so that might slow things up a bit. Still have two jobs that I know of to wrap up, one small bury job and backfill footings and fine grade a nursing home addition. About a weeks worth of work. I know most of the equipment needs to be serviced but we have been running hard and haven't been able to. Spring looks busy too.

Equipment that needs servicing but has been running too much to do it....sounds like the work is gonna pick up for the mechanics in your area before too long...LOL Not trying to be a smart a--, well maybe just a little..LOL...I'm a mechanic by trade, and I have customers do this all the time and eventually it comes back to bite them when they least expect it so I just couldn't resist making the comment..... ..Maybe with the storms coming ya'll have time to severice and repair everything before spring hits and all he-- breaks loose for the next season. I know around here people in other industries talk about slowing down for the winter but for us we stay busy year round either repairing equipment getting ready for summer or repairing other equipment that they break during the summer. It's a never ending cycle but it pays the bills..... .
