Diesel question... road diesel or home heating oil

Hello, I'm trying to get an old AC HD6G back into useable shape. The fuel that was in it looked questionable, so I drained out the tank, and there was definitely water in there. Someone suggested that I try running a tank of road diesel through it since the additives in it may help clean up the system and possibly make this old engine to run a bit better. Do you think this would be a good idea or a waste of money?

Thanks,Steve

Stick with off road diesel. On road diesel is low sulphur and most older equipment and tractors used the sulphur in the diesel fuel as a lubricant for the injector pump. Add some fuel conditioner as Bob said.

You have just to change the fuel filter and refulled the tank with home heating oil and additionned 2 quats dextron aut.oil in fuel tank.

Just dump in a can of Stanadyne or other diesel system additive.

Or, if you must, jut try some premium off-road fuel. There's nothing magic about "on-road" diesel, other than that road tax has been paid on it, so it is not dyed red.
