Got the radiator and hyd pump off. Took flywheel off pony motor, there is alot of play in crankshaft on pony. Is this normal or is it getting bad? If it is bad how hard and what would it cost to switch it to electric start? It's an early 7u. On the left side of bell housing there is a spot in casting that looks like a starter would go but it does'nt have any holes. On the right side of housing is casting # 8f4087. Does it take a special starter or can you use certain tractor starters? thanks

If the play on crankshaft is up and dan you can just change the the front bearing if the crankshaft look good and if the play is front and back it should be the lock pine bearing is out and for the startor you need a hole ,a startor with angle teeth,a generator,a big batterie and more.

Hi Kelley
End thrust on poney is pretty common. Allowable is .025 but I have seen them with more than that.

Check my website for starter info covering D2,4,6 starter conversions. email me if you have questions
