Hi, got the pony motor off this morning and got the main engine out also. My question is can I get the timing gear cover off if I take the lower radiator pipe off the water pump or do I have to take the water pump off? Ser # 12xxx, thanks

Hi Kelley,
You don't have to remove the water pump as part of the timing cover removal.

The big crankshaft nut is standard thread.

Thankyou you've been alot of help. I took the bell housing off so I can machine it for electric start. Do you think I can get by with 12 volt or do you suggest 24 volt? Thanks again.

12V works ok unless you need glow plugs for the climate your starting in then 24V is a must.

Drive from the front works fine. Same arrangement Cat had with their direct start.
