Troy, follow CH's lead and part it out. You spend $600 plus hauling to get it home, and turn 1,000s of dollars in profit by parting it out. Then, go find a better candidate for restoration with money you make.
If you sell it, don't sell it cheap, you know there is money in it.

I have parts for that machine and i would also be interested in giving you a profit if it is on the east side of this country and you want to sell it without doing anything. You can email me for my web site.

This may sound like an easy fix but its not. the machine will have to be almost completly disassimbled to replace the ring and pinion. Also if the pieces got into the transmission it could have lots of damage to. I just bought the same machine with the same problem last spring for parts. It had already been taken apart and the trans gears were heavily damaged. Also since you have to take the trans apart to get to the pinion you will more than likely find other worn parts that should be replaced and these would need to be bought new and let me tell you from expierence they are not cheap and usually have to be bought from Deere. But.... $600 is really cheap and you could always get your money back selling parts. Its just a lot of hard, heavy, work getting everything apart. If you get into it and need some parts email me, I may have a few that you could use(projacktech@bellsouth.net)my machine is a very early model to and lots of the parts on later models wont fit the early ones.

Just read your post.
I have a 450c JD track loader that transmittion or steering clutches slip when backing up in reverse after it has been worked and got real hot.
I have a manual and did the adjustments per manual and that helped some but still slips.
Can anyone tell me is this a big job to overhaul the transmittion and clutches and also brakes.
Will I have to have a hoist to remove any items or can I do all of the lifting by hand????? ?
I am not a mechanic as such but have a decent shop but the ceiling is to low for a hoist.
I think I have most of the tools needed and I try to do most of my own work.

Also would you have some used parts from the tractor you have that I might could use for this overhaul. If so my email address is razorback36@vuewifimail.com
Any advice or help would be much appreciated

If the rest of the machine is decent, you just about couldnt go wrong for 600$ . If it was local to me i would buy it. Surely you can find the gears used in a junk yard, or from one of the guys here.
remember there is always the resale value for parts on these oldies also.
