Need quick advice! Guys, I have an opportunity to purchase a Ford CL65 skid steer for $3,500. The machine looks good. It looks like it has been restored and re painted. It is very clean. There is no hour meter on the machine so the hours are anybodies guess. I have not operated the machine yet but soon will. I have no experience with type of machine so what do I look for when checking it out? Is this model dependable and are parts still available? There is not much information available on this model on the internet. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

The Ford CL line was made by Thomas but used different engines. They were called Shibaru but I think they may have been Perkins. Thomas used all Kubota engines in their own machines. I would think that most other parts are the same. A CL 65 is probably similar to a 233 or 203 or a 183 Thomas. The early 233 Plus weren't as good as the later HD233. I don't know when they changed. $3500 is cheap if everything works. However check with a Ford or Thomas dealer for parts. availability. Also is it cleaned up just so the seller can get rid of it? Hope this helps. Dave

Just wanted to add most of the components are standard items. Like hydraulics and such. Thomas are a decent machine and better than some others. Maybe you could get someone experienced to check it out? Dave

Well, I bought this dang thing. Used it for 30 minutes before I noticed my back was covered with hydraulic fluid. The seal is out going from the drive shaft to the hydraulic pump under the seat. It was a bear trying to find the part. Don't was your time with Ford on this model. Thomas equipment is the way to go. They had the seal and are shipping to me. The Ford CL65 is the same as the Thomas T233 except for the engine. I will have to slide the engine back in order to install the seal but it doesn't look like that big a deal. I still don't think I did too bad for $3,500. Everything functions as it is supposed to except the parking brake but I don't much care about that.
