JD 450C won't run

Replaced a JD 450C motor after the motor in the one I had died. The new motor won't fire even after bleeding the lines and using ether. It is getting fuel and is drawing air.

During the engine swap, I had to take the priamry fuel pump, fuel filters, and secondeary (high pressure) fuel pump off of the blown motor and switch them over.

I need to know what pressure the cylinders should be so I can check them.

I have been told to check the timing on the secondary fuel pump, as if it is off, the engine will not fire.

How about the injectors? or the low pressure fuel return line?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Rusty

You've got me a little confused with your "primary" and "secondary" pumps. The crawler has a camshaft-driven low-pressure transfer pump bolted to the side of the engine. That delivers fuel to the fuel-injection pump - which in itself is actually two pumps in one "box" - a vane low-pressure pump and a piston high-pressure pump. The fuel-injection pump is supposed to pump high pressure fuel as long as it's getting at least 10 VDC to the shut-off solenoid, and it's getting fuel without air in it. You say (I think) that the injection pump is pumping fuel. Take an injector out of the engine and hook back up to the line - crank the engine - and see if fuel actually sprays out of the injector. If so, this way you know the injection pump is able to deliver fuel under rated pressure. If you determine the engine IS getting fuel from the injectors - then either your valve or injection timing is way off, or you have under 300 PSI in compression. When the engine has #1 cylinder at top-dead-center of the compression stroke - the two timing lines on the injection pump should be lined up.

If I disconnect the lines at the injector pumps, I get fuel.

If you get nothing with ether it has to be compression - valve timing is suspect.

Does it smoke while cranking ??? Has it tried to "hit" at all ?? Like Uncle said , how about the injector pump wiring or solenoid ??

I'm just thinking here but is the Fuel Cutoff energized?
