Undercarriage bangs after a while

I installed a new Berco undercarriage on my Case450 crawler loader this fall. I've since run it only about 30 hours at the absolute most. I noticed after about fifteen hours the right side track would pop or bang very loudly when going forward. I've inspected it visually and nothing seems cracked or out of alignment. I'm pretty sure it has to be misaligned. I used the same shims from the old undercarriage on the sprockets on the correct sides. The wear shims for the front idler wheels were machined from new. How do I pinpoint the problem? Recommendations? I haven't run it much since the bang as I didnt want to break anything and now I have some time to investigate and hopefully correct the problem.

I've got two 850 john deere's. One has been replaced recently with berco and the other still has john deere. The john deere undercarriage is really quiet but the berco is noisy and pops like you were saying. Everything is new on the berco but it is much more noisy than original.

My JD did this sometime back, make sure that the back roller is lined up with sprocket in the center, also check the sprocket for end play. Mine had end play on the sprocket shaft and a tooth on the sprocket would climb up on the chain and pop in at different times.

If the bang occurs while going straight ahead, the sprocket could be worn enough to allow it to slip a tooth, especially under load. I saw a Cat D2 doing this at a display a wee while back. The noise is quite loud.

Since they're new tracks, are they too tight or too loose? Could a rock have gotten in the tracks? Maybe you could put some fresh paint on the tracks and/or the sprocket and see where it wears off. This might indicate an alignment or sprocket problem. Just a couple thoughts. I read somewhere about sprocket popping but can't remember where. It might be more common working on slopes? Hope you get it figured out. Dave

I dont think there are any frozen links. After we installed the undercarriage we ran it while it was hoisted in the air and everything tracked rather nicely. I operate in pit run, its a mixture of about two to six inch stone intermixed with clay/sand.

I haven't run it any other kind of earth yet. I think i'll try the walk beside thing. Everything on the undercarriage is new except for the pads. The rails were also totally rebuilt to spec.

My 450 will sometimes do the same thing although it's almost always when I've been making a hard turn, especially on uneven ground. My undercarriage is pretty worn and I've got a couple of links that are partly frozen.

Generally, the pop comes from the back sproket area. If your 450 is doing this on a regular (repeatable) basis then I'd have someone put the machine in a slow forward motion and walk along side, watching the sprokets when it "bangs". I'm guessing you will see a pattern.

The first thing are the tracks sealed and luberciated or dry type. If they are sealed you, could have some leaking and be dry causing to snap and pop . The other things could be woren sprockets front idler ware as wellas roller ware . I,donot kind of material you, are operating in sometimes some types of mud will cause links to sees.

sometimes when a sprocket is worn down pretty far, in a pull, it will turn inside the chain & make a loud crack when it comes out of one link & snaps into another
