Everything is removed for undercarriage rebuild. new tracks, rollers, bolts, etc. Idlers rebuilt. should get the turned down sprockets back in the AM. I am planning on welding the sprocket rims on with 7018 rod. Is that the best to use. Also any issues with tempering if I do a continuous weld arounfd the sprocket?

I don"t know how old of tractor you are working
on, if a magnet won"t stick to the sprocket you will have to weld it with stainless steel rods, but if a magnet if a magnet will stick to it 7018
is ok ....be carefull L A Lamb

7018 is the rod to use. Make sure to put a bunch of tacks all around it so it doesn't pull when the weld cools. Preheat wouldn't hurt if the steel is fairly thick and you may want to alternate welding on one side then the other to keep things straight and an even temperature all around. Let it cool slowly by itself and you shouldn't have any problems. Also burn the rods as hot as you can make a nice bead so you get proper fusion and penetration. Not so hot you get a lot of spatter and undercut. Clean the area to be welded and grind a small groove for penetration if the pieces fit flush. Dave

This is the rod I would use [7018],and would not be concerned with tempering after welding.
