I've got a ? for Ajk or whom ever can help. I'm looking at a used jcb 1400 backhoe my neighbor has. Eng. runs good but it will not pull itself. The hyd. filters never replaced; he's not sure where they are located. I'm wondering if its the pump. If it is, does anybody have an idea what a new pump would run? I would more than likely do the work myself. Thanks for any help..

Don"t get what you mean by it won"t pull itself, are you referring to the machine won"t move or the hydraulics won"t work, the two thing are seperate, the main hydraulics of the machine has one hydraulic filter in a cannister under the hood beside the battery, there is also a strainer in the bottom of the hydraulic tank,if the machine has a Borg Warner shuttle box there is no external filter but there is a pickup strainer in the little oil pan under the box,the oil level is checked with the engine on low idle,to test the main hydraulic pump lift the loader up full aginst the stops and if the pump is good you will notice a change in engine tone and hear the valve blow off.I have no idea what a pump would cost it is very seldom they fail.

The problem isn"t with the main hydro. that run the hoe and front loader. It"s trying to move fwd and rev. I"ve been told that if the wrong oil is used in the tranny that that could be the problem. Do you have any input?
