After using my 450C for about an hour it slowly started losing power and pretty soon would only idle even at full throtle. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter amd still after about an hour the same thing happens. Took the fuel tank off power washed the inside and replaced the fuel screen on the outlet, and still the same thing. It gets good fuel flow up to the injector pump. Could the fuel shut off solenoid in the pump close after getting hot?

If you take the timing cover off the other guy referred to,and it runs fine, that is the problem. You can't use it with the cover off because it pours the fuel out. But you can take it off and see if that solves your problem. If it does, then your return is stopped up with those rubber pieces.Remove the return fitting from the inj. pump, drill or pry out the small "ball" in the center, replace the fitting and return line, and go back to work. Good Luck.

I started my dozer this morning and drove it back to my shop, about a quarter mile. It started right up and never missed a lick. Got to the shop and ran it up to full RPM and back to idle several times ran like a new dozer. Took the small retangular plate off the side of the injector pump and nothing but clean diesel flowed into the rag.If it was the govener would'nt it have the power problem all the time? When it had the loss of power problem the other day the RPM's would go from 2000 down to 0 and the engine would stop within about a minute no matter what you did with the throttle.

I'm sorry I doubted both of your knowledge. This afternoon I ran the engine at about 2500 RPM for about 30 minutes and the slowing down started until it stopped the engine.Took the side plate off and still no trash.Took the return line off blew everything out and restarted it. Ran good for about 10 minutes then started the same thing. This time when I took the side plate off out comes a piece of black plastic looking stuff.Going to take it off tommorow and get it rebuilt. Thanks for your help.

Could be but not likely...I'll put my money on the governor in the injector pump going bad..On the side of the injector pump there's a small rectangular steel cover with 2 small screws in it..If you remove the 2 screws and carefully pry off the cover , with a clean rag under the opening , catch anything that comes out with the fuel inside the pump..Chances are you will find small black rubbery particles in the rag..Thats the governor ring disintegrating..Pump should be rebuilt..

Roy,I had the pump rebuilt a couple of years ago and probably don't have over 500 hours on it.Why would it work good for an hour, then start acting up?

The amount of use is not always the issue. The plastic (pellathane) ring can go bad just sitting. But, a good pump shop would of elminated the ring and updated it to the newer EID. Just remove the housing-pressure regulator and see if then runs better. It is the fitting that screws into the top of the pump and hooks to the return line. It is composed of two pieces - the bottom half that actually threads into the pump and the flare-adapter fitting on top of it. You must take the entire fitting out of the pump - so all there is - is an open hole. Then run the engine for a minute and see if it's better (yes, some fuel will spill).
